How to play Star Battle

Bring your attention to one round of Star Battle. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Tap to place a star, mark a cell or clear it.
  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A useful example

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Look for the relevant detail.

Watch out for this

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. Compare the situation with the worked example. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
