How to play Memory Pairs

Choose a round of Memory Pairs and settle into its rules. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

Seeing a star at the top left and another star in the bottom row gives you a matching pair on a later turn. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Take a moment to compare.

Watch out for this

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. Check the rule before repeating the action. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
